What is a hippie?

A hippie, or hippy, is a term popularized in the late 1960s and early 1970s, used to connote a person who rejected societal norms and embraced a nonviolent ethic and communal lifestyle with a strong focus on peace, love and community. Used here to playfully delineate a person who seeks to explore alternative paths in a conscious and ethical way.

What is the Hippie Trail?

The original Hippie Trail was an overland route from Europe and West Asia through South Asia. It was an alternative form of tourism, popular with travellers seeking spiritual enlightenment, adventure and freedom. It was often categorized by cheaper travel and a greater number of interactions with local cultures.

Who can create a HippieTrails account?

Anyone who believes in community-led travel networks. We require accurate contact information and ask every member to review the About page to understand our vision before creating an account.

How do pins get verified?

Each contribution is reviewed by community moderators. We look for respectful language, inclusive practices, and enough context for other travelers to follow in your footsteps.

Can I edit or delete my data?

Yes. You can edit pins, reviews, and your profile at any time. If you want to leave HippieTrails entirely, contact support and we will delete your account and associated data.

What happens when something harmful is reported?

Safety reports jump to the front of our moderation queue. We temporarily hide the content, investigate with the reporter, and consult local laws before deciding if it should return to the map.
